I heard It On The Radio

I was a bit worried about my previous post dealing with my employer’s zero tolerance policy and the job description describing violence and aggressions from all and sundry as an expected part of the job.

I did think that possibly someone at work may figure out who I was. But no, this did not happen thankfully.

I was entertained to hear a radio spot, by my employer, trumpeting how proud they were of their zero violence policy and how much they really meant it. I expect my newly revised job description forthwith.

Thinking about violence at work did lead me to do a little Googling:

Our Acute Problem

To alleviate the culture of violence on inpatient psychiatric wards exposed by a Healthcare Commission audit last month, psychologists should have more of a role in care, argues Rufus May. There should also be more service user “consultants” helping manage wards and training of staff. But above all, says May, we need more non-medical residential alternatives to hospital care.

I have not finished it yet but it looks like it may be interesting. Rufus May is generally a thought provoking read.

I’m looking for articles to do with psychiatric ward culture and how to change it. Anyone have anything useful ?

Useful? Yes. Ditch the inverted commas from the word “consultants”. We work as hard as you do…
