Nurse with Clip board

Tameside and Glossop PCT are looking for a “Health Improvement Co-ordinator” (£29,091 – £38,352) to take the strategic lead in the delivery of health improvement activity in the area. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, managing, monitoring, evaluating and coordinating health improvement activities across the locality.

To do the job you must have significant experience of improving health, as well as “programme management and delivery”. You will need a thorough knowledge of health inequalities and the ability to apply your knowledge to the needs of the local, (disadvantaged), community. A proven track record of something or other and the ability to bang on until the cows come home about diversity issues would also probably be an advantage as would the ability to speak Swahili and play Monopoly with one foot.

Educated to degree level (of course) you must have experience and understanding of multi-agency working. But hurry this offer only continues while stocks last.

Meanwhile the rest of us get 8% over three years which is still more than some are going to get but maybe if we had fewer band 7 Health Co-ordinators doing what ever a band 7 Health co-ordinator does we might be able to afford a few more real nurses doing real nursing jobs.

Hi E

Quote “To do the job you must have significant experience of improving health” unquote..well that counts out most shrinks.

Yep, am up for a scrap!!!

Seriously, though, what are they looking for some kind of super being that has the power to heal with their hands?

And good on you for ticking this place along whilst Z is soaking up the sun and sipping on the odd cocktail.

Careful, you will be getting confused with Dr. Crippen!

Who are they, and who is washing bums?

To do the job you must have significant experience of improving health . . . well that counts out most shrinks.

Oooh, harsh!

But, I s’pose, Voltaire wasn’t so far off the mark when saying :

“The art of Medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.”
- Voltaire, French author, humanist, rationalist, & satirist (1694 - 1778)

Maybe I don’t have “significant experience” of “improving health” after all 8)

I find it reassuring that the powers that be take health improvement so seriously that they have decided to have someone co-ordinate it all. I can feel the world spinning more steadily on its axis already.

If the ‘Health Improvement Co-ordinator’ is responsible for “programme management and delivery” presumably Thameside and Glossip have something similar to these ‘Health Trainers’ who are at work in Manchester as the people on the ground actually trying to do the improving:

http://manchesterpublichealthd.....iners.html

“In July 2005, Manchester was chosen as one of the first areas in the country to set up a new national initiative known as ‘Health Trainers’, first introduced in the government’s “Choosing Health’ White Paper. The paper proposed that health trainers would be drawn from local communities and trained to reach people who want to adopt healthier lifestyles but who are not in contact with services. . . . the Health Trainer is a new employment opportunity aimed at local people who want to support others to improve their health. The aim is to attract people into employment who may not previously have considered, or been considered for employment in the field of health and social care.”

Hmmm, presumably with an obvious lack of experience no barrier to gertting the job, the pay is somewhat less than their co-ordinators.

Also, how do they plan to go and find these poeple who need their health improving who are ‘not in contact with services’?

Dear Shrink,

8% over three years? Wth inflation predicted to reach 4% this year, you’re getting a pay cut of 1.3%. Have you noticed the price of petrol? It’s £1.35 a litre at my local marina. [That's £6 a gallon to OSB. An imperial gallon I hasten to add.] I’d go to the Sainsbury petrol station except err, I’m in a boat and it’d look a bit silly on the A14 in the rush hour. I suppose I could just wave my Mad Certificate at them…

That will do it Socrates.

By the way have you thought you are one of the few people with a Doctors note proving that you are sane? The rest of us have to rely on appearances. When can we expect an update on the New Republic we await with baited breath for the next instalment?

£30k a year to ensure we give up smoking and consume 5 portions of fruit and veg simultaneously. I`ve concluded that it`s my destiny to die of something associated with the monstrous hypertension that this type of nonsense induces in me. It`s a double tragedy, really. Firstly, that this type of muppetry occurs at all and secondly that it persists when, quite clearly, the government can`t afford any more passengers on the payrole.

OSB> Personally, I recommend consuming those 5 portions one at a time rather than simultaneously. And it does help to take the fag out of one’s mouth before shoving in a handful of grapes. Although maybe that’s not what they mean by “co-ordination”.

BTW, acgree with Socrates, the pay deal is appalling.
