Lying down on the job

Silly season appears to have started early when it comes to stories involving the NHS.

‘Lying down’ NHS staff reinstated

Seven members of staff at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital suspended for playing an internet game that involved them lying down have returned to work.

Great Western Hospitals Trust said it had made a decision not to dismiss any of those involved in the prank.

“We’re glad the staff are back doing what they do best. They need to understand unprofessional behaviour is unacceptable,” a spokeswoman said.

The images, since removed, were posted on the social networking site Facebook.

The game involves being pictured lying down with arms by your side and toes pointing towards the floor.

Extra points are awarded for being pictured in unusual settings.

Naturally, I would never stoop to unprofessional behaviour in work. If a colleague happened to be stressing about an untoward incident, I would absolutely never prank-call them from the secretary’s phone claiming to be from the local newspaper.

Did I say that out loud?

  • Ha. Staff at work used to initiate the new receptionists by phoning up and pretending to be suicidal patients in desperate need of help, then listen to them panic…
