Hi GT,

Missed your post, sorry so hope I catch you in time before the interview with my worldy wisdom.

GET OUT GET OUT While you can!

J/K.

No I’m not. Really… RUN!!

Well err… a sense of humour helps - but don’t go telling them the one about the schizophrenic dyslexic who kept hearing the voice of dog.

What’s truly important in MH nursing for staff I’ve worked with is a life experience that brings with it a sense of perspective. What is also good to have is someone who not just knows what they think they’re capable of handling - but what they think is going to be tough - and how they’re going to cope with it. MH can bring you into contact with experiences that test you in ways you never realised you could be tested.
There is a general core list of skills that are preferred in MH - tho we don’t require clones and I love the variety of ‘flavour’ of life that other people bring to the setting (for example read the debates with OldSchoolBaby and beakie - both lovely blokes - but both stubborn and often oppositional bastards - and I like that they both work MH) - but I’m not going to list those skills because quite frankly you either got them or you don’t.

Good luck

Hi All,
I have an interview as a nursing assistant next week. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it would entail?. This is my first venture into Nursing - a complete right angled career change after spending 20 years account managing and managing ’stuff’ in general.
Being as this is a totally different career path choice - maybe you could also tell me where this new direction could lead (career wise) for someone with zero medical/nursing qualifications. Would it help if I added that I have a great capacity for learning and not afrid of anything that may be thrown at me… literally too I guess.

Hi I was in the same possition ayear ago. They know who they are looking for. It was the worst interview I had ever given, but I got the job.

They basically want to know what you have to offer. Give you an idea of the job which sounds scary. And you have to sell yourself. Give an idea on how you would deal with different situations, someone being highly depressed. If you saw someone having ago at someone else, how you would cope in a volatile situation.

Staff are very helpful where i work and they don`t mind what you ask know matter how daft it sounds.

good luck
