Is Obesity a Mental Health Issue?
December 19, 2007 in Mental Illness, Outright Waffle, Passing Connection To Work, Treatment by Azulinebloo | 7 comments
I have been thinking about this for quite some time now, but I haven’t heard anyone else talk about it, or read anything worthwhile so decided to put my thoughts down here and you can tell me your opinion on it. I really don’t think I could be the first person to think like this! Read the rest of this entry »

- DeeDee Ramona : I have ended up finding an entire website about the Donner Party. Note, not the "doner party".
- DeeDee Ramona : ta muchly!
- zarathustra : I have unleashed your comment, DeeDee. No idea why it got stuck in moderation hell, but it's now free
- DeeDee Ramona : A comment of mine is awaiting moderation because it contains URLs. (It's a bunch of information on the Minnesota Starvation Experiment, which was mentioned on the anorexia thread). Z, can you free my comment from limbo please? ta
- TheShrink : Oh noes! Zarathustra, but that's a disaster! I've read Global, but I'm institutionalise d and crave TWIM every Saturday morning!
- catriona223 : anyone on line
- zarathustra : Shrink, I won't have time to do This Week in Mentalists until the evening. You may go to bed now. Or just read the Global Mentalists News Round Up instead.
- Kittyxxx121 : In reality EN's used to do the same jobs as junior staff nurses CD, there was no scope for promotion. Before AfC they still used to do meds rounds, ward rounds would even be left in charge of a ward if short staffed. however they only usedto get C grade, bloody disgusting i think. Thankfully that's all gone now.
- Mr Ian : Not here in Oz - they still churn ENs out regularly.
- cellar_door : I worked with an EN on my last placement. Was always a bit confused about what he could and couldn't do...
- Kittyxxx121 : I think it is rather hypothetical. Most have retired. You've more chance finding a lottery winner than an EN these days
- Mr Ian : Kitty: you're right - and I'm out of date. I checked it out in the revised Code «link» and it does indeed now permit nurses from part 1 or 2 of MH or LD to implement 5(4). I much preferred it in the old days ... only cos I was right then
- Kittyxxx121 : Oh and I believe that EN's do have the necessary skills to assess and make clinical decisions.
- Kittyxxx121 : No, It's not dodgy. It's true As prescribed in the actual act. Nigel Turner merely gives summaries and has a disclaimer that it shouldn't be used as legal fact.
- Mr Ian : ooh I can do the link thing... you just post it.. cool.
- Mr Ian : Unless it's changed since I was there - Has to be first level nurse - can't do the link thing - but check out MHA hyperguide «link» - "This Section allows a nurse to prevent a voluntary patient from leaving the ward pending the arrival of the doctor who could, if necessary, impose a Section 5(2). The nurse must be a qualified "first level" nurse." The policy you linked too may be dodgy since 5(4) requires clinical assessment leading to decision making - whic
- Kittyxxx121 : According to this they can, which was always my understanding
- Kittyxxx121 : «link»
- Kittyxxx121 : «link»
- Mr Ian : Kitty: I'm sure Enrolled Nurses don't have holding powers.
- Mr Ian : Back in a bit... just nipping up the coast to Cairns for 3 days. Well it's a little cooler there for this time of year at 34C
- Azulinebloo : evening z
- cellar_door : Thanks Kitty...never let it be said that I'm afriad of asking daft questions anyway
wasn't sure which was the newer term...
